What's the Buzz About Honey?
Honey is created by bees as a food source for times when other sources are scarce. It is made up of a mixture of sugars and other compounds, and contains many vitamins and essential minerals including B-vitamins, vitamin C, calcium, copper, iron and magnesium, as well as several different amino acids.
Honey's antibacterial properties have made it popular for centuries. Considered an ancient remedy for the treatment of infected wounds, honey has recently been 'rediscovered' by the medical profession. Studies have shown honey's effectiveness in rapidly clearing infection from wounds, with no adverse effects to slow the healing process. There is even evidence to suggest that honey may actively promote healing.
But we use it because it is a great humectant, honey easily attracts and retains water, making it a perfect skin and hair moisturizer.
