Rated 2 out of 5 by Lisarenee from It Still has the grit issue from 5 years ago I did a Google search, "Burts Bees lipstick is gritty", because mine was about 2 weeks new when I noticed this issue. Google brought me here to this exact product, and the grit issue was being mentioned in reviews from 5 years ago. This is what happened to me. I wish this wasn't happening. I like the other BB products that I purchased. Side note: My hair color isn't an option in the profile after I wrote my review. My hair color is gray.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MeWinnie from CREAMY GOOD COVERAGE I am giving this review in 2023. I purchased LILY LAKE lipstick several YEARS ago. I don't use it often because I only use it for special occasions. I daily use the Pomegranate lip balm and at times the Tinted lip balm in Red Dahlia. After all of these years (at least 4 years) the lipstick is still creamy and works well. I have had no issues with this lipstick being grainy, but sometimes I have had the lip balm be grainy. This hasn't happened for a long time. It seems that Burt's Bees has taken care of the issue. I highly recommend these lipsticks. I do wish that the Tinted Lip Balm in Red Dahlia was darker! I have olive skin and brown hair, and the tint just isn't as dark as I would like it to be. Not "redder" but darker would be better.

I purchased years ago and, although I’m used to the quirks of natural products, this formula didn’t hold up very well in the tube. It separated so that there were a little lumps of wax making the lipstick itself lumpy bumpy. Prior to it separating it was a gorgeous creamy formula with high color pay off. I got around this by using a lip brush, but some formula improvement is needed. The color, however, is a vibrant oriental red and just stunning! I have 4 favorite reds and 3 of them are by Burt’s Bees (Redwood Forest matte stick & Evening Glow gloss with the 4th being one made by Aveda).

My purchase also went grainy but I would hardly consider it unusable, it didn't change the long lasting coverage or the moisture level of the product. Just giving my lips a little exfoliation with each use (insert smiley face).

Unfortunately, it has a purple undertone that doesn't work for me and it's kind of splotchy when applied. I also found the formula to be a bit drying. Love other Burts Bees products but wouldn't recommend this one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Lipstick Lover from Grainy Lipstick So I see many others have written reviews about the would-be most perfect lipstick (I was in love with it at first too)…oddly turning into sandpaper. I get it… A batch can be bad or reformulation backfires. What I can’t figure out is that I see the same issue goes back years, based on the reviews here. Like 5 + years….how is that even possible? And why are you continuing to sell it when this seems like such a universal problem people are having? So disappointing, especially from Burt’s.
